About

The Philosophy: The Poetics of Emptiness

My practice is an exploration of "Kong" .

I am drawn to the Eastern philosophy of "the usefulness of the useless"—where the value of a space lies not in its form, but in the void it creates. My work does not rely on complex structures or overt traditional motifs. Instead, I seek a language that is quiet, subtle, and restrained, allowing the essence of the material to speak for itself.

The Practice: Material Dialogue

For over a decade, my journey has been a continuous dialogue with diverse materials. From my foundational years in Metal Art at Tsinghua University to my conceptual evolution at the Royal College of Art , I have never stopped testing the boundaries of functionality.

I treat materials—whether it be silver, lacquer, rice paper, ceramics, glass, or resin—not as tools, but as mediums of contemporary expression. I am interested in how traditional materials can be re-contextualized in a modern, minimal aesthetic. Each piece is an experiment in capturing a sense of stillness within a fast-paced world.

The Identity: Studio & Academy

I am an artist and university lecturer based in Shenzhen. This dual path allows me to bridge academic research with hands-on making. At SPHINXY, my studio practice is a personal reflection of my growth. I do not follow seasonal trends; I create objects that are meant to be felt, held, and experienced over time.
